Your Basic Chili Recipes

This chili recipe tastes great as is.

But feel free to add more of your favorite spices or other ingredients.

Basic Chili Recipes

The Main Ingredients;

2 Medium onions, chopped

1 Medium green pepper, chopped

½ cup chopped celery

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

2 pounds lean ground beef

2 cans (28 ounces each) diced tomatoes, undrained

1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce

1 cup water

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 to 2 tablespoons chili powder

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon pepper

2 cans (16 ounces each ) beans, rinsed and drained


In a soup kettle or Dutch oven, sauté onions, green pepper and celery in oil until tender, about 5 minutes.

Add beef and cook until browned; drain. Stir in tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, Worcestershire sauce and seasonings.

Bring to boil; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 1-1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Add kidney beans. Simmer, uncovered, 10 minutes longer.

Serving Size 10-12.

2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into ½-inch cubes

4 medium sweet red peppers, chopped

2 large onions, chopped

4 garlic cloves, minced

¼ cup olive or vegetable oil

3 tablespoons chili powder 2 teaspoons ground cumin

¼ teaspoon cayenne

1 can (28 ounces)diced tomatoes, undrained

2 cans (14-1/2 ounces each) chicken broth

2 can(16 ounces each) kidney beans, rinsed and drained

1 jar (12 ounces) salsa

1 package (10 ounces) frozen corn

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon pepper


In a soup kettle or Dutch oven over medium heat, sauté chicken, peppers, onions and garlic in oil until the chicken is no longer pink and vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.

Add chili powder, cumin and cayenne pepper; cook and stir for 1 minute.

Stir in remaining ingredients; bring to boil.

Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 10 -15 minutes or until the chicken is tender.

Serving Sizes Around 14-16.
